A Carolus IV Spanish 4 Reale that has been countermarked with the bust of George III by the Bank of England as an emergency issue Half Dollar.
Silver available to the Mint for coin production was in short supply due to wars in France after the French Revolution in 1797 so the Bank of England released stocks of it's Spanish Dollars and Half Dollars each with an oval countermark of George III's bust. This example is in good Finer condition with the reverse a little better. S.3767
