KM# Pn86, BH-42 - Centavo 1862 México Mo. "PRUEBA". PCGS MS64 BN. Sobra decir, EXTREMADAMENTE RARO EN ESTE ESTADO DE PRESERVACIÓN

ENGLISH:

KM# Pn86, BH-42, Centavo 1862 Mexico Mo. "PATTERN". PCGS MS64 BN. TOP POP. In 1857, President Ignacio Comonfort enacted Mexico's first monetary law based on a decimal system of pesos and centavos. However, it was Benito Juárez who, by Decree of March 15, 1861, ordered its implementation beginning in January 1862, giving rise to the coin illustrated here, which was struck at the Mexico City Mint. Its design and execution were entrusted to the engraver PAREDES, whose signature appears in the exergue. It should be noted that these examples should be considered design samples or essais, rather than striking trials intended for machinery adjustments. Consequently, this was an issue that was never officially released into circulation. The definitive centavo replaced the national emblem with an allegory of seated Liberty, a representation more in keeping with the ideals of the government following the Reform War (1857-1861). This magnificent example offers exceptional visual appeal, retaining abundant luster complemented by a patina with delicate sky-blue hues that come alive under angled light. Completely free of wear or friction, with only a few minimal handling marks in the fields. It bears emphasizing that we are unaware of any other example combining comparable attributes, a fact confirmed by its position at the top of the census. PCGS lists three additional examples under certification number 724415, none comparable to the present piece. NGC, meanwhile, reports only two examples; the closest is graded MS62 BN and also represents the most recent public appearance of the type, offered as lot no. 71025 in the October 21, 2025 Stack's Bowers auction from the Kirk Menczer Collection, where it realized an impressive US$16,800.00 including buyer's premium, a result that underscores the significance of the present offering. Needless to say, EXTREMELY RARE IN THIS STATE OF PRESERVATION.

Estimate: 270000 - 300000 MXN
