| Lot description: Caliphate. Coin struck by North African rulers in the name of Abd al-Rahman III. Al-Buri ibn Musa. Fraction of dirhem. (Salvador Fontela "Primeras acuñaciones africanas a nombre de Abderrahman III", n. 10). Obv.: . The figure appearing on the obverse, al-Buri ibn Musa, was the son and successor of Musa ibn Ali, the first ruler of Fez to recognize Abd al-Rahman as Caliph, in opposition to the Idrisids and the Fatimids, and struck coinage in his name. In I JARIQUE (Zaragoza, 1988), on page 43, José Ignacio Sáenz Díez notes that "the very few examples discovered have damaged borders, making it impossible to determine either the mints or the years of issue". This example, like all others, also has this problem, but it is the best one known. 1.26 g. (MBC+). Estimate: 150 EUR |
