DENMARK. 4 Skilling, 1535. Stockholm Mint. Christian III. NGC--Chipped.
Galster-251; Sieg-26; Schou-59; Bruun-4233. Weight: 1.92 gms. Very rare example of this single-year type which was minted in Stockholm for the Swedish king Gustav Vasa, but under Danish king Christian III's name. These coins were minted to pay the German mercenaries summoned by Gustav Vasa in southern Sweden. The troops were deployed there to support Christian III's war against the allies of his cousin and predecessor Christian II. This war is referred to as the Counts' Feud.

The two crosses drawn in ink on the reverse were made by renowned Danish collector Frederik C. Bech. Two crosses mean 'perrar' or very rare.

From the L. E. Bruun Collection.

Ex: Frederik Chr. Bech Collection (Copenhagen - 1906) Lot #6.

Estimate: 1500 - 2000
