| Lot description: VARIOUS COUNTRIES, original promotional set of one Dutch gold ducat, two Dutch ducatoons, three Mexican silver cobs, and eight Dutch 2 stuivers, in blue leatherette case of issue. Case is 12" x 9". The 1970s marked the Golden Age of shipwreck salvage in Northern Europe, with numerous treasures recovered from long-lost 18th-century vessels. Among the most notable finds were coins from ships like the Hollandia (1743), Association (1707), and DeLiefde (1711) - but the standout discovery off the coast of Norway was undoubtedly the Akerendam (1725). Unlike other shipwreck recoveries, where coins were sold off individually at auction, the Akerendam's treasure was thoughtfully curated into collector sets such as this one. These sets typically include a mix of silver and gold coin types in better condition. The highlight of this particular set is a Mint State 1724 gold ducat from Utrecht with fully detailed knight and legends, only slightly bent as is typical for these thin coins from this wreck. The original presentation case is included, showing some wear consistent with age but still closing properly, printed with A PART OF THE "AKERENDAM" TREASURE (and its counterpart in Norwegian) on the top.
