| Lot description: PERU, Lima, gold cob 8 escudos, 1711 M, NGC MS 63 (1715 Fleet Shipwreck Label), ex-Katz (cover coin), ex-McGregor. S-L28; Cal-2119; KM-38.2; Fr-7. 26.86 grams. Good luster and mostly bold strike, with full cross-lions-castles and pillars-and-waves (very slightly doubled), particularly bold (R)EXANO to left of nearly full crown, well-centered strike. Regarding its pedigree, Wallace Katz was an active collector in Las Vegas and no doubt appreciated this coin for its 7-11 date, as mentioned by Flemming on his certificate. From the 1715 Fleet, with Philip Flemming photo-certificate from 2019, pedigreed to the Wallace Katz Collection (Morton & Eden auction of May 2010, lot 219, pictured on the catalog cover) and to the McGregor Collection (stated on label). Estimate: 15000 - 22500 USD |
