From the Würzburg collection, purchased from J. Schulman 16.6.1936.
Together with his brother and successor, Friedrich Karl, Johann Philipp Franz von Schönborn gave his name to the art-historical term 'Schönborn era', during which the prince-bishopric established itself as a centre of Baroque art and culture. Significant construction projects were undertaken, most notably the expansion of the residence, which earned Würzburg its reputation as one of the architectural jewels of the Baroque period.
