Subvariante en particular que siempre presenta debilidad central en ambos lados, lo que en algunos casos impide observar la totalidad del diseño, como ocurre en este ejemplar. Sin embargo, ambos cuños son identificables por características puntuales: el anverso presenta cuatro puntos en la parte central del escudo y un punto entre la base del número 2 y la cruz de la corona. El reverso se reconoce fácilmente por el cerro difuso y la cruz que apunta directamente a la base de la letra "P" en PROVISIONAL. Cospel con ligeros vanos en borde de 6:00 a 9:00, algunas marcas y rayoncitos, ligera pátina oscura y tonos cobrizos alrededor de la leyenda de reverso ENGLISH: KM# 186 (A&C# 996) – 2 Reales 1811 Zacatecas LVO. VF. First type featuring the local coat of arms. This specific subvariety consistently shows central weakness on both sides, which in some cases prevents full visibility of the design, as seen on this specimen. Nevertheless, both dies are identifiable by specific markers: the obverse displays four dots within the center of the shield and a dot between the base of the number 2 and the cross on the crown. The reverse is easily recognized by the blurred depiction of the hill and a cross that points directly to the base of the letter "P" in PROVISIONAL. Planchet with minor voids along the edge from 6:00 to 9:00, some marks and faint scratches, dark patina and coppery tones around the reverse legend. Buena acuñación y detalle, especialmente en el lado del escudo, gran parte de las leyendas visibles, aunque presenta ligera debilidad en el borde inferior del cospel. Doble golpe en el reverso que genero un curioso efecto al comienzo de la leyenda, leyéndose "HHISPANARVM". Destacado estado de conservación, ligera corrosión en superficie, pátina obscura, giro de -45° y 13.10 gramos de peso ENGLISH: MEXICO. KM# 36 (A&C# 503) – 4 Reales (1572–1589) Mo O. AU. Variety with mintmark Mo to the left and assayer O to the right below the IIII denomination. Well struck and detailed, particularly on the shield side, with most of the legends legible-though with some weakness along the lower edge of the flan. Double strike on the reverse creates a curious effect at the beginning of the legend, where it reads "HHISPANARVM." | Lot description: KM# 257.1 (A&C# UNCAT) – 2 Reales (Sin fechar, Ca. 1813) Congreso de Chilpancingo. VF. - Contramarca clasificada como tipo "B", cuyo diseño consiste en un águila de frente con las alas abiertas, posada sobre un nopal que crece sobre un puente. Esta pieza se considera un tipo, ya que el resello fue aplicado sobre una fracción previamente cortada de una moneda de 8 Reales o "tajo" equivalente a 2 Reales, con un peso final de 6.13 gramos. La razón de esta práctica era la escasez de moneda fraccionaria, lo que dificultaba la circulación incluso dentro de los territorios controlados por el bando insurgente. En cuanto al huésped, no se logran distinguir rastros visibles del diseño original. No obstante, al carecer de cordón en el canto, es muy probable que se trate de una moneda provisional de Zacatecas, más plausiblemente del tipo con busto armado, acuñado entre 1811 y 1812. Analizando los puntos de corte, puede notarse que fue realizado del mismo lado donde fue colocado el resello, del lado opuesto, se observa una textura irregular de la superficie transmitida de la superficie sobre la que se aplicaba al resello, así como algunas marcas y rayones. En cuanto al resello, se conocen diversos punzones, cuando menos 3, unas 10 piezas conocidas al momento entre todos ellos; este en particular se distingue por un doble borde de líneas continuas entre el nopal y la línea de puntos. Coincide exactamente con el mismo punzón del ejemplar que forma parte de la colección del Banco de México (inv. 3822), el cual ilustremos aquí mismo y que es la pieza a la que "KM" hace referencia como "única" y al igual que la del Banco, presenta ese cierto "rayado" generado al momento de haberse aplicado el resello, posiblemente un polín de madera y no una base completamente sólida como un yunque de acero. Por lo demás, el resello se encuentra bien aplicado y en calidad VF, con pérdida de diseño únicamente en la parte superior, debido a que quedó parcialmente fuera del cospel. La presente pieza fue encontrada en actos de prospección cerca de la localidad de Puruándiro, Michoacán. RARA Y FASCINANTE POR SU ATIPICIDAD. ENGLISH: KM# 257.1 (A&C# UNCAT) – 2 Reales (Undated, Ca. 1813) Congreso de Chilpancingo. VF. Counterstamp classified as type "B", featuring a front-facing eagle with open wings perched on a cactus growing from a bridge, considered a type piece as the stamp was applied to a previously cut portion ("tajo") of an 8 Reales coin equivalent to 2 Reales, with a final weight of 6.13 grams. This practice responded to the scarcity of fractional coinage, which hindered circulation even within insurgent-controlled territories; although no visible traces of the host design remain, the absence of edge cord suggests it was likely a provisional Zacatecas issue, most plausibly the armored bust type struck between 1811 and 1812, with the cut made on the same side as the counterstamp, while the opposite side shows irregular surface texture transferred from the striking base, along with some marks and scratches.Several punches of this type are known at least three accounting for roughly ten documented specimens across all variants, and this particular example is distinguished by a double continuous-line border between the cactus and the dotted line, matching exactly the punch used on the Banco de México specimen (inv. 3822), illustrated here and referenced in "KM" as "unique", which also shows the characteristic bench marks likely caused by stamping on a wooden beam rather than a solid steel anvil and a cross that could be interpreted as graffiti, though interestingly it has been observed on several other pieces bearing this same counterstamp. With the counterstamp otherwise well-applied and in VF condition, showing only minor loss of design at the top where it slightly exceeded the planchet. This specimen was found during field prospecting near the town of Puruándiro, Michoacán, and is RARE AND FASCINATING FOR ITS UNUSUAL NATURE. Estimate: 33800 MXN |  |
