The Russo-Turkish War of 1828–1829 was fought between the Russian and Ottoman Empires, primarily as part of Russia's intervention in support of the Greek struggle for independence. Hostilities took place in both the Balkans and the Caucasus, with Russian forces under Field Marshals Wittgenstein and Paskevich achieving a series of significant victories, including the captures of Varna, Silistra, and Adrianople. The war ended with the Treaty of Adrianople (14 September 1829), which granted Russia access to the Danube delta and parts of Eastern Armenia, and secured Ottoman recognition of the autonomy of Serbia, Moldavia, Wallachia, and the de facto independence of Greece.
