Lot description: Russia Bronze Medal 1725 - In memory of the death of Emperor Peter I - Peter I the Great (1682-1725) 24.40g. 38mm. AU/UNC. An attractive specimen. Medalier: Jean Dassier (Obverse - on the left near the rim: J.D). Diakov 63.12 Ae R3. Rare. Obv.: A half-length portrait of Peter I facing forward, with his head turned to the left. The tsar is crowned with a laurel wreath. Peter is depicted in armor with the sash of the Order of St. Andrew over his shoulder and an ermine mantle. "PETRUS MAGN . IMP . UTRIUSQ . RUSS" - "Peter the Great, Emperor of All Russia". Rev.: On the reverse, figures of Neptune and Minerva are seated against the backdrop of St. Petersburg on the right, to which Minerva gestures with her hand, and the Gulf of Finland with ships on the left, to which Neptune points with his hand. On the left edge, the initials of the medallist I • D • (Jean Dassier) are visible. "EX UTROQUE MAGNUS" - "Great both on land and at sea".
