Lot description: NGC MS65 BN | AYRSHIRE, Ayr, Colonel William Fullarton, Pattern Trial for a Shilling, [1798], dies by J. Milton, bare head right of Adam Smith or William Wallace, rev. female seated mourning over antique military trophies, plain edge, 12h, 8.88g (D&H 3), usual die flaw to the reverse and marked to the face, nonetheless with a mirror brilliance, toned to chocolate-red surfaces, extremely fine and very rare, in NGC holder, graded MS65 BN (Cert. #8220550-003). Provenance, The Alfred Leonard Fuller of Bath Collection (1870-1941), , https://www.ngccoin.com/certlookup/8220550-003/65/, Hamer in his 1906 article for the BNJ wrote: 'A profile head of Adam Smith, wearing his natural hair, appears on some small medals or tokens, of which very few were struck. The reverse represented a seated female figure, draped, lamenting over a trophy of arms. Signed J MILTON F on the ground work. No legend on either obverse of reverse; edge plain.
