Lot description:

(t) CHINA. Hupeh-Honan-Anwhei Soviet. Dollar, 1932 (in characters). Ch'ilip'ing Mint. NGC EF-45.
L&M-887; K-802; KM-Y-503; WS-1335. Representing just the fourth example of the type that we have offered, and the first in over six years, this impressive "pseudo Russian" Soviet Dollar is so-called on account of the garbled Cyrillic on one side. Purporting to translate to "Chinese Soviet Republic," only the first word (СОВЕТЬ) bears any real resemblance to the intended Russian. In this case, the unfamiliarity with the western-style alphabet mimics the obvious misspellings on the "warlord" issues of the fairly contemporary Memento Dollars. An EXTREMELY RARE offering, especially with such a relatively crisp and clear strike, with nearly all the characters on each side coming through distinctly. In particular, the central portions of each side--the hammer & sickle as well as the "one yuan"--are well executed and vibrant. Lightly toned and charming, with some golden-olive hints around portions of the devices. Adding even more intrigue to this piece is the fact that it stands as the only bilingual issue in the Soviet Chinese series. As such, one that should no doubt generate massive interest and appeal.
