Carol II gold "Jubilee" 100 Lei 1940 UNC Details (Repaired) NGC, Bucharest mint, KM-XM11, Schäffer/Stambuliu-110. Thorn wreath obverse type. Struck to commemorate the 10th year of Carol II's reign. An iconic type and certainly among the most visually captivating examples of 100 Lei from this era of Romanian coinage, distinguished by the instantly recognizable thorn wreath framing the sitter's portrait. The reverse features equally as stimulating a design, with the shields of Wallachia, Moldavia, Dobruja, Transylvania, Oltenia, and the House of Hohenzollern surrounding the King's royal cypher. Each face of the issue, while possessing issues relating to surface quality, glistens upon illumination, with the protected peripheries percolating with originality. As one of only 5 currently certified by NGC and only the second we've seen in recent decades, we expect advanced collectors to take keen interest. From the Carpathian Collection of Romanian Coins

Carol II gold "Jubilee" 100 Lei 1940 AU55 PCGS, Bucharest mint, KM-XM12, Schäffer/Stambuliu-111. By E. W. Becker. Uncircled bust variety. Coin alignment. Reeded edge. Commemorating the first decade of Carol II's reign. Impressively designed and engraved, this flashy, canary-gold example makes for a worthy addition to the specialist's collection. This mammoth piece of gold was unlikely to have seen circulation, so the attributed wear is likely from stacking or storage.

Carol II's scandalous reign ended in 1940 with his forced abdication following his acquiescence to German and Italian demands during to the so-called Vienna Diktat, which led to significant territorial losses and a complete discrediting of Carol II's foreign policy. Carol II gold "Jubilee" 100 Lei 1940 AU55 PCGS, Bucharest mint, KM-XM12, Fr-19, Stamb-111. By E. W. Becker. Uncircled bust variety. Coin alignment. Reeded edge. Commemorating the first decade of Carol II's reign. One of the more attractive compositions in all of Romanian numismatics, which is no small feat. Despite the obverse "flyspecks," almost always seen on the type, this example projects a wonderfully ornamented design and a bright, yet decadently rich amber-honey patina.

Carol II's scandalous reign ended in 1940 with his forced abdication following his acquiescence to German and Italian demands during to the so-called Vienna Diktat, which led to significant territorial losses and a complete discrediting of Carol II's foreign policy.

Carol II silver Proof Pattern 100 Lei 1932-(a) PR66 PCGS, Paris mint, KM-Pn229, Schäffer/Stambuliu-151.1.1. Dies by André Lavrillier. A decidedly difficult, later Pattern issue rarely witnessed at market, denoted by the placement of the mintmark and engraver's emblem to the reverse. Essentially flawless, with a gentle aqueous blue that adorns the fields and a maroon toning embedded within and above the portrait that will surely carry the present offering to an advanced cabinet. Carol I gold "40th Anniversary of Reign" 20 Lei 1906-(b) MS63 PCGS, Brussels mint, KM37, Schäffer/Stambuliu-64. Mintage: 15,000. Struck to commemorate Carol's 40th anniversary of reign. An essential type in the Romanian gold series, featuring the dual busts of Carol I as both prince and king, "DOMNUL" and "REGE." The luster here is quite appealing while the occasional wisp might cap the assigned grade, doing little to diminish the originality that ultimately elevates the visual allure.
