Lot description: Great Britain William IV Proof Crown 1831 PR65 Cameo NGC, KM715, S-3833, ESC-2462 (R2). Plain edge. Incuse W.W. on truncation. A famed Proof-only issue struck for William IV's 1831 Coronation Proof set, represented here in a supremely rare condition. NGC's Cameo designation here is well deserved, the fields crackling during in hand inspection, igniting a most pleasing patina of teal, lavender, and lemon. William Wyon's engraving sees full articulation on the facets, the bust appearing robust and lifelike, as the shield emits an ornate and regal character. The piece at hand is bested by just one example at half a point higher on the NGC census, and one PR66 Cameo at PCGS, indicating that this offering is one of the finest extant on the market. A favorite of British collectors that whenever offered brings greater sums, a trend we expect to continue with the current example. https://coins.ha.com/itm/great-britain/great-britain-william-iv-proof-crown-1831-pr65-cameo-ngc-/a/3117-30160.s?type=DA-DMC-CoinArchives-WorldCoins-3117-06192024 HID02906262019 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved Estimate: 25000-30000 USD |
