Lot description:

SPAIN, Seville, gold cob 2 escudos, Philip III, assayer G, PCGS AU58 (Santa Margarita). Cal-197; KM-20. As mentioned in the previous lot, gold cobs from the Atocha and Santa Margarita are quite rare and important to shipwreck collectors, so long as they have original certification as seen here, with additional certification and grading by PCGS. On this coin the cross-and-tressure are full but weakly struck, and the full shield shows evidence of a rusted die, but the assayer G to left is full and appears above a clear king's ordinal III in the legend. With original Fisher tag and photo-certificate 80M-158 and promotional booklet Mel Fisher "The World's Greatest Treasure Hunter" (undated) as well as an official appraisal from 2022 for $97,500. Recovered from: Santa Margarita, sunk in 1622 west of Key West, Florida

Estimate: $10000 - $20000
