The Geoffrey Cope Collection of British Coins. Charles I 'Fine Work' Shillings of the Tower Mint.
AR Halfcrown (37mm, 14.40 g, 4h). Exeter mint; im: rose. Dated 1644. Charles on horseback trotting left, holding sword and reins / Coat-of-arms. Bull 665/32 (this coin cited); Besly N32.2 = Brooker 1051 (this coin); North 2568; SCBC 3076 (this coin illustrated).
Very minor doubling but much as struck from very fresh dies.
Richly toned. EF. Excellent detail to king. Rare thus.

Ex J.G. Brooker Collection; R.P.V. Brettell (Glendining's, 28 October 1970), lot 376; S. Simpson Collection (purchased en bloc by Brettell, 1955).
