Lot description: The Geoffrey Cope Collection of British Coins. Charles I 'Fine Work' Shillings of the Tower Mint. Proof AR Shilling (34mm, 6.00 g, 10h). Group G, type 4.5. London mint; im: sceptre. Struck under Parliament, 1646-1648. Crowned seventh bust left; XII (mark of value) to right / Coat-of-arms over short cross moline. Sharp (HLL) type H1/1 and p. 175 = Brooker 566A (this coin); North 2233; SCBC 2802. Undoubtedly a proof of record. Struck on a very broad flan. Much brilliance under rich old tone. EF.
