The Geoffrey Cope Collection of British Coins. Charles I 'Fine Work' Shillings of the Tower Mint.
Proof AR Shilling (29.5mm, 5.95 g, 8h). Group D, type 3a. London mint; im: bell. Struck 1634-1635. Crowned fourth bust left; XII (mark of value) to right / Coat-of-arms. Sharp (HLL) type E2/2 and p. 175 = Brooker 490 (this coin); North 2225; SCBC 2791.
Boldly struck with great care on a perfectly round flan. Exceptional detail to portrait.
Richly toned. EF. Extremely rare.
