Lot description: The Geoffrey Cope Collection of British Coins. Henry IV. 1399-1413. AR Groat (27mm, 3.9 g, 9h). Light coinage. London mint. Struck 1412-1413. Crowned facing bust within tressure of ten arches; lis at cusps, annulet to left of crown, pellet to right / Long cross pattée; triple pellets in quarters. Potter p. 132, die II-2; North 1359; SCBC 1727. Very well struck on a broad flan. A few light marks on high points. Light tone. Good VF. Very rare, especially so in this state. Ex F. Brady (Spink 209, 6 October 2011), lot 65; Spink 101 (24 November 1993), lot 90. Long a rarity of the English medieval series, groats of Henry IV were struck only in the last year of the reign.
