Lot description: Indonesia R.T. Braakensiek gold "Bonk" Ingot ND (1937-1957) UNC, KMX-Unl, Lansen-542. 105x37mm. 501.2gm. Stamped in two lines KG 0.5012 AT 24.4 / GOUD 9998/1000, with oval "ESSAIEER AFFINAGEBEDRYF V/H R.T. BRAAKENSIEK BATAVIA." An elusive vintage 1/2 kilo gold ingot from the assaying and refining workshop of R.T. Braakensiek, whose Tael tokens are always contested, yet we can find no record of a gold ingot to have been offered for auction in the last twenty years. Founded in Jakarta in 1930 by Belgian gold merchant Rudolf Theodoor Braakensiek, the Logam Mulia Precious Metal Refinery began refining gold and silver in 1937. Initially a private venture, it became the legal entity NV Essaieur en Affinage Bedrijf v/h RT Braakensiek in 1949. After being acquired by Bank Industri Negara in 1957, its name changed to PT Logam Mulia, and by 1961, it transitioned into government ownership, eventually integrating into PT Aneka Tambang (Persero) Tbk as a business unit in 1968. https://coins.ha.com/itm/indonesia/indonesia-rt-braakensiek-gold-bonk-ingot-nd-1937-1957-unc-/a/3115-31253.s?type=DA-DMC-CoinArchives-WorldCoins-3115-05082024 HID02906262019 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved Estimate: 30000-40000 USD |
