Lot description: Great Britain George VI gold Matte Proof 1/2 Sovereign 1937 PR64 PCGS, KM858, S-4077, Marsh-543B (R6). The epitome of rarity, and the perfect companion piece for the full Matte Proof Sovereign also presented in the Ezen Collection. Words fail the present cataloger with the unexpected opportunity to witness this pair simultaneously in hand. The matte effect is highly unusual, quite different from what is seen with the 1902 matte Proofs. The surface quite literally sucks in and captures the light, owing to the meticulous process of individually sandblasting each piece. The previous time we handled this very example was in our New York auction in 2019, realizing $16,800 all in. Seeing this piece endures as the sole finest certified across the two grading services, we expect no less fierce bidding activity as this crosses the block. Ex.
