| Lot description: GERMANY. Hamburg. Silver Trade Piaster Trial of 2-1/2 Tolas, ND (1877). PCGS MS-61. Schaaf-62-M2. By F. W. Burchard for use in East Asia. A fairly RARE and engaging issue, this trial issue was meant to capitalize on the popularity of silver in non-western markets (such as in East Asia), as gold had become the dominant standard in the former. This issue denominated to 2-1/2 Tolas features the bust of Hammonia, a female personification of the city of Hamburg. Alluringly toned, with some enchanting brilliance radiating throughout.
