Lot description:

(t) ANNAM. Gold 5 Tien, ND (1916-25). Khai Dinh. PCGS Genuine--Holed, EF Details.
cf. KM-X-M5.1 (in silver). Weight: 17.85 gms. An EXTREMELY RARE gold striking of the 5 Tien denomination; in our searches of public auction records we are able to find only one other example, which was struck with the same dies and sold in in Hess-Divo auction in 2001. Both examples feature holes at the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock positions, likely a remnant of their usage in jewelry. The manufacture is slightly crude, as typical for these medallic Tien issues, but ample detail is evident despite the moderate wear. An elusive opportunity for the collector of rare Annam types.

Estimate: $2000 - $3000
