Lot description:

German States
Hesse-Darmstadt. Ludwig IV gold 20 Mark 1892-A MS64+ NGC, Berlin mint, KM365, J-221. Mintage: 25,000. A stellar example of this low-mintage type, of which we have offered more Proof examples than business strikes such as this. This mellow-amber colored piece is occupied with swirling luster and a distinct sparkle. By far the finest of this emission we have ushered across the auction block and the second finest example certified by NGC. Included with an old auction flip from a Glendining & Co. Ltd. auction in October 1970.
