Lot description: Colombia Ferdinand VI gold Cob 8 Escudos 1749 SF-SR AU58 NGC, Bogota (Nuevo Reino) mint, KM26 (Rare), Cal-800. Assayer Sebastian de Rivera. 26.92gm. Preserved on the very cusp of a Mint State designation, this incredible offering is the "Top Pop" example out of only two examples certified on the NGC census. Connoisseurs of Colombian Cobs can instantly recognize the uniqueness only seen in Ferdinand VI's issues. Crude by nature and with very few surviving our days, specially in the 8 Escudos denomination, it is a delight to have in hands such a show-stopper coin. The well-struck and relatively centered surfaces gleam with intense harvest-lemon luster to effortlessly accentuate the crest, cross, and legends. The majority of its original detailing remains highly visible, even boasting a full '1749' date on the reverse, with a retrograde 4. This is the first time in our long numismatic history that we have ever offered this type, and as such, we expect high bidder activity and excitement from those who value the perfect combination of quality, prestige, and rarity. https://coins.ha.com/itm/colombia/colombia-ferdinand-vi-gold-cob-8-escudos-1749-sf-sr-au58-ngc-/a/61364-21182.s?type=DA-DMC-CoinArchives-WorldCoins-61364-03172024 HID02906262019 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved |
