| Lot description: MEXICO. Cortes & Dona Marina Gold Medal, 1964. NGC MS-64 Deep Prooflike. Grove-P79. Diameter: 40mm. Weight: 42.26 gms. Struck to celebrate Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes and his translator and advisor, Dona Marina or La Malinche. Obverse: Bust of Cortes slight right, his own coat of arms below; Reverse: Bust of Dona Marina slight left. Dazzling golden surfaces with a smattering of marks and frosted busts. Slight bronzing in the grooves of the busts rather adds to the dimensionality of the designs. From the Collection of Jacques Benuzillo (1899-1964). Estimate: $2600 - $3000 |  |
