Lot description:

MEXICO. Mexico City. Ferdinand VII/Colegio Mexicano Oval Gilt Bronze Medal, 1809. PCGS Genuine--Mount Removed, EF Details.
Grove-F-26B. Obverse: Bust of Ferdinand VII right; Reverse: Bishop, magistrate, and general seated at table, above two globes and below crowned banner. An interesting and seldom-seen medal issue acknowledging the captivity of Ferdinand VII following Napoleon's takeover of Spain. The reverse suggests continuity of civil order in Mexico in the face of political turmoil in Europe. The original rectangular loop has been removed at 12 o'clock, but the piece otherwise retains most of its gilded splendor and charming detail.

Estimate: $150 - $250
