ATHENEU COMMERCIAL DE LISBOA . 10 DE JUNHODE 1880, Hermes stands upon the globe, 31mm, 17.94g (Lamas 213), with a most pleasing flashy cabinet tone and lustre, handsomely struck up in high relief, extremely fine; and, Portugal, Tricentenary of the Death of Luís de Camões, AE Medal, 1880, by Feeire, LUDOVICUS CAMOES, laureate bust right, rev. seven line inscription, 42mm, 40.25g (Lamas 202), some carbon spotting to otherwise pleasing light brown fields, good extremely fine; also, Portugal, Tricentenary of the Death of Luís de Camões, AR Medal, 1880, unsigned, TRICENTENARIO DE CAMOES, draped three-quarters bust left, rev. 10 DE JUNHO DE 1880 within wreath, 46mm, 43.56g (Lamas 196), a touch of rub to otherwise lightly toned surfaces, with laurel wreath suspension loop, good very fine; another, Portugal, 500th Anniversary of the Death of Prince Henry the Navigator, AR Medal, 1894, unsigned, V CENTENARIO DO INF. Luís de Camões (c.1524/5-1580), is considered to be Portugal's greatest Portuguese language poet. His mastery of verse has been compared to that of Shakespeare, Milton, Vondel, Homer, Virgil and Dante.
