Lot description: Matilda (Dowager Empress. Countess of Anjou; in England 1139-48), 'Cross Moline' Type, Penny, Cardiff, Bricmer, [MATILDI]S IMPE[R], crowned bust right, sceptre before, rev. [ ]E[ ]AIERDI, cross moline with a fleur in each angle, 0.80g (North 936; Spink 1326), chipped and in three parts, partly flat to the obverse, yet with a pleasing iridescent tone, fine, the reverse better, rare.
