Lot description:
SCOTLAND. Crown, ND (1526-29). Edinburgh Mint; mm: Star/Crown. James V. PCGS AU-58.
S-5370; Fr-24; Burns-2 (fig. 739). Second coinage, class III. Weight: 3.39 gms. Obverse: Crowned coat-of-arms; saltire to left and right; Reverse: Voided cross potent, with lis at each limb, voided cross pommee at center, and thistle in each angle. Very well struck and extremely enchanting, this robust survivor is about as close to Mint State status as one can get. The devices and legends are clear and crisp, and a hint of cerise toning augments its character that much more. Though the Glendining sale omitted an image of lot 567, the collector's ticket indicates that this specimen emanates from that illustrious collection, so that pedigree is tentatively included. A VERY RARE and important opportunity for the advanced collector of the series. To view all items from the Lucius S. Rudder Collection, click here.
