Lot description:

SPAIN. Cob 2 Escudos, ND (1566-95). Seville Mint. Philip II. EXTREMELY FINE.
Fr-169. Weight: 6.50 gms. Though lacking a date and indication of the assayer, this specimen nevertheless presents rather strong details on all aspects that are present upon the flan. Pale yellow in hue and highly vibrant, this example emanates from the famous sinking of the Nuestra Señora de Atocha, which sank off the coast of Florida in 1622, and is accompanied by the certificate from Mel Fisher/Treasure Salvors, #85A-GC9, tag #2705. An important and extremely desirable specimen given its impressive history pedigree.

Estimate: $5000 - $10000
