Lot description:

RUSSIA. Gold 10 Rubles Novodel, 1756-CNB. St. Petersburg Mint. Elizabeth. NGC MS-63.
Fr-Unlisted (though cf. Fr-122 for regular issue); KM-Unlisted (though cf. KM-C-28.2 for regular issue); Bit-H76 (R3). This stunning RARITY almost lacks words to describe its majesty and splendor, as it represents seemingly just the third such occurrence of the type to cross the auction block in the past two decades-plus. Of the prior two, the more recent of which sold in 2011, the more attractive example realized the equivalent of just over $80,000 hammer at the time. In comparison, the present piece is just as alluring and provocative, if not even more so. Given the advancement in the Russian market since, and given the unmissable opportunity that this novodel issue provides, the heights to which it could soar are no doubt extremely difficult to predict, though they should be quite lofty and monumental.
