ISLAMIC, Seljuks. Western Iran. Ghiyath al-Din Da'ud, AH 525-526 / AD 1131-1132. Dinar (Gold, 21 mm, 3.00 g, 10 h), Hamadan, AH [52]6 = 1131/2. Citing the ʿAbbasid caliph al-Mustarshid billah (AH 512-529 / AD 1118-1135) and his Great Seljuq overlord Sanjar (AH 511-552 / AD 1118-1157), 'Sanjar / lā ilāha illā Allāh / al-Mustarshid billāh / al-sulṭān al-aʿẓam / Abu'l-Ḥārith' ('There is no deity but Allah. al-Mustarshid billah. The supreme sultan Abu'l-Harith Sanjar' in Arabic); mint and date formula in the margin, of which '... bi Hamadān sana sitt wa ...' ('... in Hamadan in the year xx6' in Arabic) is legible. Rev. 'ibn Maḥmūd / Muḥammad rasūl Allāh / al-sulṭān al-aʿẓam / Ghiyāth al-Dunyā wa al-Dīn / Abu'l-Fatḥ Dāwūd' ('Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. The supreme sultan Ghiyath al-Dunya wa al-Din Abu'l-Fath Da'ud son of Mahmud' in Arabic); in the margin, traces of 'Muḥammad rasūl Allāh arsalahū bi al-hudā wa dīn al-ḥaqq liyuẓhirahū ʿalā al-dīn kullih wa law kariha al-mushrikūn' ('Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. He sent him with guidance and the religion of truth, so that He may make it overcome all religions, even though the unbelievers may dislike it' in Arabic). Album 1689. Extremely rare.
