| Lot description: China Qing Dynasty. De Zong (1875-1908) Mother Coin 10 Cash ND (1887-1898) Certified 88 by Gong Bo Grading, Board of Revenue mint (East Branch), Hartill-22.1290, Jen-1693 var. (only listed in ivory), FD-2640. 30.5mm, 9.3g. A highly-respectable example with minimally toned, crisp peripheries. Mother coins were key-pieces in the Cash coinage process. They were the first casts of molds obtained from the engraved master, also known as Ancestor coins, which were carved by engravers and later presented to the Emperor. Mother coins are easily identifiable from their much higher quality in casting leading to more pronounced characters. Such issues were later used to make several molds for casting the circulating issues.
