| Lot description: China Northern Song Dynasty. Hui Zong (1101-1125) Iron Mother Coin 3 Cash ND (1111-1117) Certified 82 by Gong Bo Grading, Hartill-16.454, Jen-1530, FD-1083. 32.3mm. 12.3gm. Narrow rim. A deeply-rendered survivor from these special, coveted issues. The Mother coins were key-pieces in the Cash coinage process. They were the first casts of molds obtained from the engraved master, also known as Ancestor coins, which were carved by engravers and later presented to the Emperor. The Mother coins are easily identifiable due to their much higher quality of casting and details. Such pieces were later used to make several molds for casting the circulating issues.
