| Lot description: China Republic Sun Yat-sen nickel Pattern 5 Cents (5 Fen) Year 26 (1937) MS64 NGC, Shanghai or Wuchang mint, KM-Pn180, Kann-852. Plain edge, medal alignment. An unexpected nickel Pattern 5 Cents of utmost scarcity. According to Kann, no nickel coins dated 26th Year of the Republic were placed in circulation, and his personal collection contained an example of these Patterns in 20 Cent and 5 Cent denominations. A quick survey suggests the current selection is the only one to date certified by the two grading services. This piece immediately impresses with the meticulous finish of the planchet and the crisp strike extending all the way to the sharp rims, making the quality readily evident.
