EF to About Unc, RRR. From the same mold as Lot 992 in our Auction 43. This is the 5th known coin of this type, all sold in our Auctions 33, 35, 43, and this Auction, all from the same molds.

Estimate: 400-500 USD

Lot description:

BURMA: TENASSERIM-PEGU: Anonymous, 17th/18th century, cast large tin coin (66.53g), Robinson-11 (Plate 8:2), 70mm; thin mythical hintha bird facing right, with long tail rising above, long feathers along its back, and holding what is probably a 9-leaf branch in its beak // 3-line Burmese legend (type B2), VF, RR. Robinson suggests that the obverse of this type imitates the obverse of the common lead weights; the crude production suggests that this is a local imitation or emergency casting, similar to the examples found in the Perak hoard.
