Lot description: GUATEMALA. Cob 4 Reales, 1739-G. Guatemala Mint; Assayer Jose de Leon y Losa (J). Philip V. PCGS Genuine--Holed, Fine Details. KM-5; Cal-1010; KM-87.2 (for countermark). Weight: 12.87 gms. Guatemala (Central American Republic) Type II Countermark; sun over mountains within circular border. Countermark grade: VF Details. The host coin shows extensive wear from circulation, but retains a full date and mintmark below the pillars and globes on the obverse. There is one neat hole above the crowns and a deep gouge upon the central devices, beside the counterstamp. The reverse exhibits some flatness caused by the struck countermark and is largely off-flan, though it still shows a clear denomination mark. The counterstamp is quite well-preserved, with its tiny details quite presentable. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click here. From the Pat Johnson Collection.
