Lot description: BOLIVIA. Cob 8 Reales, 1622-P. Potosi Mint; Assayer Juan Jimenez de Tapia (T). Philip III. PCGS EF-40. KM-10; Cal-1436. Weight: 25.85 gms. An impressive 8 Reales cob struck on a fairly round flan. Although the obverse was evidently double struck, the mintmark and assayer's initial are both legible and the denomination mark is rather crisp. The Habsburg shield suffers minor distortion from the doubling, but its finest details, such as the upper left lions and castles are presented with impressive clarity. The reverse is more severely double struck, but the date can be pieced together to conclusively determine the mintage year. Despite the crudeness of the strike, this piece presents handsomely with sharply preserved details and eye-catching earthen deposits around the attractively toned devices.
