Lot description: GREEK COINS KINGDOM OF THRACE SARIACUS, king of the Scyths, about 168-150 No.: 65 Estimation: $ 250 d=20 mm Drachm(?). AR 3.04 g. Similar to previous. RPC I, cf. 1701 (gold). Unique and unpublished. Short flan. Slightly corroded on the rim. Good very fine In his study on the coinage of Koson M. Bahrfeldt denies the existence of issues of Koson other than the famous gold staters (über die KOSWN-Münzen, Berliner Münzblätter XXXIII [1912], 252 seq.), thus in contradiction to Head, HN or Eckhel, DN. For him the few recorded specimens in silver were modern casts of the gold staters. It is beyond any doubt that our coin is genuine and ancient. | ![]() |
