PHOENICIA, Tyre. Macrinus. AD 217-218. Æ (31mm, 24.91 g, 12h). Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Emperor plowing right with yoke of oxen; in background, vexillum inscribe LEG/III/GAL. Unpublished in the standard references. VF, dark green surfaces with earthen deposits, very minor tooling. Possibly a unique type for Macrinus.


See CNG Electronic Auction 257, lot 300 for a temple type from the same obverse die. This reverse type is known on coins of Septimius Severus and Julia Domna (cf. Rouvier 2300-1), but is heretofore unknown for Macrinus.
