ANCIENT COINS. ROMAN COINS. ROMAN EMPIRE. GALBA, A.D. 68-69. Aureus. AV 7.40g. SER GALBA CAESAR AVG, bust facing to r., bare-headed and wearing a cuirass and an aegis. Rev. DIVA AVGVSTA, Livia, draped, standing to l., holding a patera in her extended right hand and a sceptre in her left. RIC 143. BMC 13. Calicó 471 (these dies). A wholly exceptional coin with a fantastic portrait, struck on a very broad flan and lustrous. Very rare, a truly spectacular Roman gold coin.
