As the artisan for the gods he made many things. Among these was the rattle Herakles used to scare off the Stymphalian birds, Talos, the bronze man who guarded the island of Crete, and the aegis of Zeus. On this coin he is making armor, most likely to replace that which Achilles lost after loaning it to Patroklos. Patroklos was killed at Troy by Hector, who took Achilles’ armor as a prize. The countermarks on this coin may be connected with the visit of Caracalla to Thyatira in 214.
