SPAIN, Uncertain northwestern mint. Augustus. 27 BC-AD 14. Æ As (25mm, 8.85 g). “Moneta castrensis” coinage. Bare head left / Round shield. RPC I 3; SNG Copenhagen 413. Near VF, green patina, scrape on reverse.
From the J.P. Righetti Collection, 6655.
The “moneta castrensis” coinage, overwhelmingly found in northwestern Iberia, lacks any features that would mark it as municipal. It is generally thought to be related to the Cantabtrian War.
