Julia Mamaea (mother of S. Alexander) Æ 20mm of Palaeopolis, Pisidia. AD 222-235. IV[LIA] M[AMAЄ]A, diademed and draped bust to right / ΠΑΛ[ΑЄΟΠΟΛ]ЄΙΤΩΝ, Athena standing facing, head to left, wearing Corinthian helmet, holding bucranium(?) and resting hand on shield. Cf. RPC VI Online 10983 (temporary) for Julia Mamaea coin from the same mint; apparently unpublished in the standard references. 3.77g, 20mm, 12h.

Very Fine. Extremely Rare unpublished type from rarely seen mint.

The mint of Palaeopolis, thought to be in western Pisidia, was particularly active during the Severan dynasty.
