Lot description:

GALATIA. Pessinus (?). Vespasian, 69-79. Assarion (Bronze, 21 mm, 12.71 g, 8 h), struck under the legatus Augusti, Gnaeus Pompeius Collega, c. 75/6–77/8. ΚΑΙΣΑΡΙ ΣΕΒΑΣ ΟYΕΣΠΑΣΙΑΝ-Ω Laureate head of Vespasian to right. Rev. [ΕΠΙ Ν ΠΟΜΠΗΙΟY] ΚΟΛΛΗΓΑ Turreted head of Cybele to right. RPC 1627. SNG Levante 888 (as Pompeiopolis in Cilicia). Stumpf 387. Dark brown patina. Reverse struck off-centre, otherwise, very fine.

The reverse inscription, fully legible on other specimens, provides us with an interesting spelling variation: the use of Ν for the Latin name Gnaeus (aurally 'Naios'), rather than the correct Γ.
