Gordian III. AD 238-244. Æ Pentassarion (13.69 g, 6h). Odessus mint. AVT K M ANT GORDIANOC, AVG in exergue, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Gordian III right, vis-à-vis draped bust of Sarapis left, wearing calathus, cornucopia at shoulder / ODHC–CEITWN, agonistic urn inscribed DARZALEIA, containing two palms; E in exergue. AMNG I 2371; SNG Copenhagen 683 (same dies); Varbanov 3580 (same dies). EF, green patina with brown overtones, small area of flat strike on obverse. Exceptional reverse type.

The Darzaleia, games in honor or Darzalas (the Great God of Odessus), took place in AD 238, probably in the presence of the emperor (see AMNG I, p. 528).
