| Lot description: THESSALY, Pharsalos. Late 5th-mid 4th century BC. AR Hemiobol (8mm, 0.46 g, 1h). Helmeted head of Athena right / Head of horse right within incuse square. Lavva –; cf. BCD Thessaly II 657 (obol); HGC –. Slight roughness. VF. Well centered. Extremely rare denomination for issue. From the Asher D. Atchick Collection. Ex Classical Numismatic Group Electronic Auction 396 (26 April 2017), lot 106. Hemiobols of this type are published for the earlier, mid-late 5th century issue with the horse head in a deep incuse square and a different helmet on Athena (Lavva 37a–40), but not the subsequent issue with spread flans and a nearly imperceptible incuse.
