| Lot description: AU 53 | Islamic: Najjahid Dynasty, al-Mu'ayyad Najjah (AH 412–452 / AD 1021–1061), Gold Dinar, Zabid Mint, AH 437 or 439 (AD 1047 or 1049), NGC AU 53 The gold dinars of the Najjahid dynasty rank among the most desirable issues of medieval Arabian coinage, struck in the prosperous Red Sea port of Zabid, a major commercial and intellectual centre linking the Islamic world with East Africa and the Indian Ocean trade. Bearing the full name al-Mu'ayyad Najjah together with the honorific Nasr al-Din, this issue represents the flourishing of the dynasty during the mid-eleventh century and is seldom encountered in today's market. This attractive specimen is certified NGC AU 53, displaying remarkably bold inscriptions, well-centred strikes on both sides, and pleasing warm golden surfaces with only light evidence of circulation. The legends remain exceptionally clear, preserving the elegance of the Kufic script and the artistic balance characteristic of the series.
