| Lot description: Hadrian. AD 117-138. Æ Sestertius (31.5mm, 25.94 g, 5h). "Travel series" issue ("Provinces cycle") – The province alone. Rome mint. Struck circa AD 130-133. Bareheaded and draped bust right / CAPPA DOCIA, Cappadocia, wearing turreted headdress, standing left, holding Mount Argaeus and vexillum. RIC II.3 1637; Banti 117. Dark brown and tan patina. VF. Hadrian visited Cappadocia, located in southern-central Anatolia, twice during his reign. In October AD 117, he traversed the region during his long tour of inspection while in route from Syria back to Rome after attaining the throne earlier that year. He returned in June of AD 123 during his passage east for a summit meeting with the Parthian King Osroes I (AD 109-129) aimed at averting renewed hostilities between the two empires.
